Challenge #11

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.
First of all, I'm skipping 10 on purpose. I'm not in the right headspace right now for this one.

So, on to tropes and themes!

I read a lot of responses to this challenge last month, and so many of us have the same favorite theme and I think I might have understood why. Why do so many of us seek out to read and create stories about Found Family?

I've been thinking about this a lot, why it is important, why I seek it out in fiction as opposed to real life. But, that might be a larger conversation because there are MANY things I seek out in stories that I don't IRL. 🤣🤣

And I've found a few interesting articles like
this one from GLAAD  that points out the obvious of the substitution of the real family who just can't-- or won't--accept us. Or maybe we just needed people who ~get~ us. *sigh* There's nothing better.

But, this quote from one of my very favorite books of last year (and this year as I've just re-read it): We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian.

Families might usually be bonded by blood, but maybe sometimes they’re bonded by shared secrets, by a delicate mixture of caution and faith, by the conviction that hiding together is better in every way than hiding alone.

And really, I think the thing I seek out in fiction is the same thing I look for in fandom spaces, people who ~get~ me, who accept me as I am, who share my weird quirks and obsessions and my secrets. ❤️❤️

So, what's your favorite books/ shows/ movies that feature Found Families? Here are some of mine:

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
The Last Binding Series by Freya Marske
Legends and Lattes, and Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldtree
Pretty Much Anything by TJ Klune (seriously, there's a reason I'm obsessed!)
